Course description

The most common forelimb conditions encountered in physiotherapy, as well as physiotherapy following biceps tendon surgery and elbow dysplasia (ED) surgery, will be discussed and demonstrated through video recordings.

Elbow Dysplasia (ED) 

  • Elbow dysplasia (ED): a complex of several disorders occurring during the growth phase  
  • Different forms of ED  
  • Importance of the biceps brachii muscle  
  • Therapy during postoperative rehabilitation – different phases  
  • Active exercise therapy  
  • Case study: rehabilitation after coronoid process surgery, including gait analysis, treatment plan, and exercises  

Biceps Tendon Inflammation and Surgery 

  • Rehabilitation following biceps tendon inflammation and/or surgery
  • Anatomy of the biceps brachii muscle – overuse and inflammation
  • Age-related changes of the biceps tendon
  • Diagnosis and treatment
  • Case study: assessment and therapy
  • Biceps brachii surgery and postoperative physiotherapy

Dr.

Since 1999, Dr. Alexander has successfully applied physiotherapeutic methods in dogs and cats. Recovery following surgery or accidents is positively supported, and pet owners are actively involved in the healing process. For more than 15 years, she has successfully taught the practice of physiotherapy to help improve the recovery of animals. During the symposiums, she is supported by her specially trained colleagues. 


Dr. Cécile-Simone Alexander runs a small animal practice in Berlin and is the author of several professional books on physiotherapy, including Physikalische Therapie (“Physical Therapy”), published by Parey Verlag. 


As a long-standing lecturer for the Bundestierärztekammer and the Vierbeiner Rehazentrum in Bad Wildungen, she is able to convey her expertise in a highly practical and clinically relevant manner.

  • Participants will receive a digital script/handout for the symposium. 
  • The script can be downloaded a few days before the live symposium from: Symposium Download Portal (I’m not sure how this will be handled, worth to check in with ops)
  • AG-TFA continuing education hours have been applied for. 
  • These AG-TFA hours can be used toward maintaining the Physiotherapy Additional Qualification certification.
